George Knapp, Jr

George Knapp, Jr, 85, of New Orchard Road, died July 2 at Epsom Manor, Epsom, Mass., after a long illness.

He was the father of Mary Knapp of Newtown.

He was born in Bridgeport, the son of George and Laura Knapp, Sr. He was a longtime resident of Sandy Hook. He moved 29 years ago, living first in Loudon and then in Epsom. He served with the US Army from 1941 to 1945, and worked as a farmer.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Knapp, and a son, George Knapp, III.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Helen Knapp; three other daughters, Linda Bowles of Loudon, Mass., Susan Cooper of Pittsfield, Mass., and Janice Mello of Woonsocket, R.I.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Knapp of DeBary, Fla., and Earl Knapp of Longwood, Fla.; two sisters, Myrtle Lovell and Harriet King, both of Wintersprings, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 6, in the Perkins Funeral Home, 60 Main Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev Charles Paige-Morgan officiating.

Burial was held at the convenience of the family in the Village Cemetery in Newtown.
