Borough Days In Litchfield
Borough Days In Litchfield
LITCHFIELD â Go back in time to the days when the Litchfield Green was a stagecoach stop, storytelling was a popular form of entertainment and tinsmithing was a way of life. All of this and more will be on display September 9 during the Litchfield Historical Societyâs 13th Annual Borough Days celebration. The event will be held rain or shine from noon until 5 pm.
This event will provide the opportunity to experience life in Litchfield during the 1800s with demonstrations of doll making, blacksmithing, pottery making, and more. Children will have the opportunity to try on reproduction clothing and play traditional games from that era.
The event starts at noon with a flag raising ceremony led by the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery, a Civil War reenactment group. During the afternoon, the group will hold an encampment on the Green, cooking, reliving war stories, and demonstrating the life of Civil War soldiers. The group will also present the historical society with Civil War-era historical documents during the event.
The 13th Annual Borough Days will take place on the Green in Litchfield, located on Route 202. Admission is free. A meticulously restored horse-drawn stagecoach will tour visitors around town for a small fee.
Parking is available on the Green and in municipal lots accessible on the south side of the Green. The Litchfield History Museum will be open for visitors and is located across from the Green on the corner of Route 202 and South Street.
