A Successful Kickoff
A Successful Kickoff
To the Editor:
On behalf of the Relay for Life of Newtown committee we would like to thank the community for its outpouring of support at our kickoff rally held on Monday, March 7. The American Cancer Society has been an active member of Newtown for many years offering a number of patients and their familiesâ services, cancer support groups and lifesaving research. Relay for Life is a community event in every sense of the word. It is a chance for a community to come together for a common cause, to eliminate cancer. Our community definitely came together Monday night with close to 200 in attendance at our kickoff rally.
Our thanks go out to this yearâs honorary chair, Jack DeFlumeri, and his family, for the tremendous amount of inspiration and support they have given to our committee and teams.
Thanks to Wayne Addessi, Addessi Jewelry; Janna Baker, Elements Massage; Caryn Casey, Knitwits and Mary Kay; Lisa Dolyak, Sandy Hook Hair Co.; Lynne Erhardt, Sipalda Jewelry; Beth Kohler, Tastefully Simple; Gina McDade, Premiere Designs; McDade Family; Trish Shannon, Southern Living; Muriel Wielebinski, Pampered Chef; and Jack Valluzza, Horizon Meats, for the very generous donations for our Silent Auction.
Many, many thanks go to Carminuccioâs Pizza and its owners Dave Kennedy and Eddie Martino. Carminuccioâs donated several trays of pasta, salad, and pizzas. Everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed Carminuccioâs very generous donation.
Thanks also to The Pepsi Bottling Group of Brookfield who donated several cases of soda and water for the rally. Their generosity is also greatly appreciated.
Our next meeting for team captains and committee members will be held on Monday, April 4, 7 pm, at the Newtown Middle School. Please consider joining us this year, teams consist of 8â15 members, we promise you it will be one of the most inspirational events you have ever participated in. If you would like further information, please feel free to call one of us.
P.S. Please be on the lookout for upcoming Relay for Life fundraisers.
With sincere thanks,
