Senior Boys A

Newtown 8, New Fairfield 2 – Ned Emerson scored four goals and assisted on another as Newtown improved to 5-0. Joe Banno, Ryan Golankiewicz, John Grimaldi, Mario Roehrs and Alex DiVico dug in on defense and stopped New Fairfield. Brendan Martin sparked the offense with two goals as Zach Varga chipped in with two assists and Will Mahony and Jacob Dauz also assisted on goals. Banno collected 10 saves in the cage.

Newtown 4, John Jay 2 – Zach Varga made a picture-perfect pass to a back-door-cutting Ned Emerson, who broke a 0-0 tie and eventually led Newtown to the win. Will Mahony blasted a high grounder past the John Jay keeper in the fourth quarter and then Tim Wheeler assisted Varga on a goal that put Newtown ahead, 3-1. Derek Flynn notched the insurance goal on an assist by Emerson. Joe Banno had another strong outing between the pipes registering 11 saves. The defensive front of Banno, Roehrs, Golankiewicz and Grimaldi led the way.

Newtown 14, Trumbull 7 – Tim Wheeler and Will Mahony collected four goals apiece to lift Newtown past Trumbull. Blake Bell, Jacob Dauz, Ned Emerson, Derek Flynn, Brendan Martin and Jason Smith all scored. Adding to the firepower were Paul Tropsa with five assists, Zach Varga with three, and Eric Dreher and Max Beitel with one apiece. Goalie Joe Banno registered 10 saves in the win.

Senior Boys Gold

 

Eli 7, Newtown 5 – Brett Mauro with scored goals while Ryan Manning added a goal and Colin Babbage added a goal and an assist to lead Newtown. Coner Martin was a late addition to the defense and wreaked havoc the entire game in the defensive end.

Newtown 12, Amity 6 – Colin Babbage scored four goals while Ryan Manning had three goals and three assists to lead Newtown to its fifth win of the year. Brett Mauro added a pair of goals while Seth Anderson, CJ Donahue, Harrison Gillis and Coner Martin each added a goal. Kevin Read added two assists from the defensive end. Teddy Schaniel had a terrific game with 12 saves and two checks that prevented breakaway goals.

Senior Girls Blue

Newtown 14, Brookfield 4 – Meghan Trosan scored three goals and Lauren Clark, Betsy Vendel, and Stephanie Soder added a pair each to lead the Senior Blue team over Brookfield. Carolyn Gingras had a goal and two assists, Libby Feltch contributed a goal and an assist, and Hannah Glasrud distributed two assists off fastbreaks. Molly Murtha, Courtney Gleason, and Lucy Remitz added single goals, while Jackie Isabella had an assist and Lisa Isabella had five saves in goal.

Newtown 14, Southbury 3 – Betsy Vendel had two goals and two assists and the defense of Jen O’Connell, Bethany Morin, and Hannah Glasrud shut out Southbury in the first half to lead the Senior Blue to the win. Lisa Isabella had seven saves in goal with offensive support from Courtney Gleason (3 goals), Meghan Trosan (2 goals, 1 assist), Lauren Clark (2 goals) and Cathy Urfer (2 goals), Jackie Isabella (1 goal, 2 assists), Libby Feltch (1 goal), Christie Attanasio (1 goal), Lucy Remitz (2 assists), Carolyn Gingras (1 assists) and Stephanie Soder (1 assist).

Junior Girls

Newtown 14, Redding 13 – Meghan Bridges scored six goals and Lisa Vendel added four more as Newtown slipped past Redding. Annie Fletcher, Liz Emerson, Katie Canavan and Julie Davis all added a goal to help lead the Junior Girls. Goalies Nicole Waterhouse and Maggie Korth had a combined nine saves in the cage.

Newtown 11, Fairfield-Wakeman 7 – Liz Emerson scored three goals as the Junior Girls ran their record to 6-0 with a win over Fairfield. Lisa Vendel and Katie Canavan scored two goals apiece as Meghan Bridges, Annie Fletcher, Kaitlin Brophy and Kara Brown scored one apiece. Steph Suhoza, Rachel Fatse and Morgan Schick anchored the defense in front of goaltenders Nicole Waterhouse and Maggie Korth.
