Safari Bound At Newtown EVCS This Summer

Trinity Church is gearing up to host the annual Newtown Ecumenical Vacation Church School this summer. This nonprofit event has been happening in Newtown for more than 30 years and welcomes all local children, whether they attend any of the churches or not.

Each year, a different church hosts the event and invites children to come from 9 am to noon for five days to sing, pray, make crafts, play outside, see skits, and more.

This year’s setting is a “Jungle Safari” where children will learn more about the Lord’’s Prayer. All children between the ages of 4 years old (by December 31, 2005) through those entering sixth grade, are invited to attend. Cost is $20 for the first child and $15 each additional child from the same family. Scholarships are always available due to financial need.

To pick up a registration form, stop by the parish office at any of the following churches: Newtown Congregational on West Street, St Rose of Lima, Newtown United Methodist, both on Church Hill Road, or Trinity Episcopal Church on 36 Main Street (by the flagpole). Forms and checks may be dropped off at Trinity or mailed in to Trinity by June 6.

Volunteers are invited to attend the next planning meeting on June 14 at 7:30 pm at Trinity Church. People volunteer from all the churches involved as well as some others including Christ the King Lutheran each year.  Over 125 kids usually attend with another 40 adults volunteering for the week.
