The Kids Lend A Paw (KLAP)’s fourth annual dog walk was held Saturday, November 1, to raise money for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

According to Newtown Middle School seventh grader Maddie Stites, who began organizing the event after being inspired by the ASPCA, which rescued her family’s three dogs — Merry, Sunny, and Chloe — the walk went as well as possible considering pouring rain and cold temperatures.

This year’s walk raised more than $600 for the ASPCA. The walk was held on the Fairfield Hills campus, and was about 2.1 miles. Participants were asked to donate $5 or dog/cat supplies for the ASPCA.

Raffle items were donated by Blue Buffalo for the event. Prizes were also awarded to the biggest, smallest, and best dressed dogs.

Maddie also said this week that Divine Dogs was among her many supporters. The dog spa put out a collection box and gave Maddie the first donation for this year’s KLAP dog walk.

For those who could not make the walk but who still wish to donate, Maddie said information about KLAP and how to donate is available at her website, kidslendapaw.webs.com.
