Newtown Congregational Church is extending an invitation to all residents to join them for a special program on Tuesday, October 20.

Warren Hardy, Jr, and September Chatfield will be the guest speakers for “Actions Speaker Louder Than Words: Violence Can Be Changed Into Nice Love.” The evening will look at gun violence and how words can be turned into action.

It will begin at 6:30 pm, and will take place in the church’s fellowship hall.

Mr Hardy, after serving six years of a 12-year term, transformed his life and began to work at educating young men about the dangers of gang activity. He is the CEO of HYPE (Helping Young People Evolve), is certified as a Level 1 Kingian Nonviolence trainer, and serves on its board of directors.

He is currently a member of The Men of Color Initiative, North End Church of Christ, Lift Every Voice, and a volunteer for Shiloh Baptist Church, The Fatherhood Initiative, and The Buddy Breakfast Program.

September Chatfield is the urban outreach coordinator for Newtown Action Alliance.

Her son Tyrex was 7 years old in September 2008, when he was hit in the head by a stray bullet while attending a parade in Hartford. Tyrex continues to battle both the physical and emotional injuries he suffered that day.

All are invited to listen to the inspirational messages to be shared by Mr Hardy and Ms Chatfield. Pizza and salad will be provided. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Reservations are requested so that food and seating can be arranged. Call 203-426-9024 or send e-mail to newcong@sbcglobal.net.

The church, which is fully handicapped accessible, is at 14 West Street.
