Actively Listen
Active listening skills can improve communication and open the door to better relationships at work and especially at home with oneâs spouse and children. Cher A. Shannon, MHSA, LADC, will host the next Parent Connection forum, âIf You Love Me, Why Donât You Listen to Me?â on Tuesday, February 15, from 7 to 9 pm in the Newtown Middle School auditorium.
Ms Shannon will explore what it means to be a good listener and identify barriers to effective communication in the family. A private practioners in the substance abuse field for more than 20 years, Ms Shannon is a former faculty member of the Westchester Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis & Psychotherapy and a part-time faculty member of Gateway Community Collegeâs Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor training program in Norwalk.
Ms Shannon provides training in the areas of ethics, family intervention, counseling people with HIV/AIDS, counselor wellness, and management and administration of human services agencies. She was education chairperson for the Connecticut Association for Addiction Professionals and is a former examiner for the Connecticut Certification Board.
She has worked with drug dependent and dually diagnosed populations within both agency and hospital settings and maintains a private practice in Norwalk.
