Summer Reading At The Booth Library

The summer reading program at the CH Booth Library kicks off on June 27 with an open house in the library meeting room from 10 am to 3 pm. The library’s young adult council will staff the tables to sign up children ages 4 through grade 5 for the summer reading program.

This independent reading program is on-going beginning June 27 and ending on August 19. Children read age-appropriate books, record them on their reading record filed at the library, and discuss the books they read with the young adult volunteers. Children who participate in the Governor’s Reading Challenge can also participate in this program using the same titles for both. Along the way, participants earn incentives to keep reading.

A variety of activities will take place during the open house on June 27 including story reading, crafts, and special appearances by Geronimo Stilton, Strawberry Shortcake, Spot, and Curious George. At 3 pm, Goeff Kaufman will perform music of the sea, earth, heart, and spirit. Anyone who cannot make it to the kickoff on June 27 can sign up in the Children’s Department anytime between June 27 and August 19.

Lana Meloni says, “The library is a fun-filled active place to be this summer.” Additional programs include: Monday crafts with Marie Walker, Wednesday PJ story times, Nutmeg book discussions, and special performances by Susan Mirwis, Joyce Marie Rayno, and Les Julian. In August, local author Jennifer Thermes will conduct a workshop featuring her latest children’s book, Sam Bennett’s New Shoes. Read the library’s column in The Newtown Bee for program details or stop at the children’s circulation desk.
