Erin Begg held off a late charge from her mom, Leah Begg, to take womens’ overall second place at the Naugatuck Valley YMCA annual 5K road race held September 9 in Ansonia.

The race was held on a hilly course on a hot and humid day and while Tim Milenkevich of Ansonia won in 17:12, Erin, 13, came in 25th overall at 24:56. Her mom, Leah, 38, finished a few seconds behind in 26th place at 24:59.
