Free Yoga Classes For Cancer Patients
DERBY â Recent studies in the Journals of Clinical & Surgical Oncology have shown that cancer patients practicing yoga have experienced a number of benefits, including significant improvements in quality of life; a decrease in depression and anxiety; enhanced emotional and social well-being; a decrease in pain and fatigue; and a less distracted mood.
Now local men and women with a diagnosis of cancer can experience the benefits of yoga, thanks to a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Griffin Hospital is offering free Monday yoga classes on February 23, March 2, March 16, and March 30 from 10 to 11 am in the hospitalâs Meditation & Learning Center.
Whether participants are newly diagnosed, still in treatment, or long-term cancer survivors, they all can benefit from this body, mind, and spirit practice. Classes are taught by certified instructor, Susan Kiley, who tailors the class content to meet individual needs. Class topics include breathing techniques, physical poses, and meditation.
