William Alois Wieler

Dedicated Family Man

William “Bill” Alois Wieler, 81, a resident of Shrewsbury, Mass., died at home surrounded by loved ones, January 8, after a long illness. He was born in New Haven to William Edward Wieler and Mary (Schwab) Wieler. Mr Wieler lived for many years in Newtown before moving to Massachusetts.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jane (Mathison); four children; ten grandchildren; and many longtime friends.

Mr Wieler was an Army veteran of World War II, and a 1952 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. He worked 34 years for Burroughs Wellcome & Company.

He enjoyed classical music, acting in community theater, and was an active member of the Cape Cod Curling Club. He was an avid UConn basketball fan. He traveled extensively with his wife, and his quick wit was enjoyed by all wherever he went.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph’s Church in Medway, Mass., Saturday, January 16, at noon. Private interment on Cape Cod will be held in the spring.
