Gerald J. âJerryâ Meany, 77, of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died August 15, at Danbury Hospital. Mr Meany was the husband for 43 years of the late Ruth (Christian) Meany. He was born in Passaic, N.J., June 21, 1932, a son of Virginia (Ballard) and Gerald Meany.
Mr Meany attended Passaic schools and was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a bachelor of science degree. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956.
He located to Bethel in 1980 to continue his career as a financial analyst for Union Carbide Corporation, until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, he was able to pursue his passion for fishing and keeping tight lines.
 Mr Meany also enjoyed volunteering for the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association.
Three children, Maureen Berry and her husband, Bernard, of Dunfermline, Scotland, Colleen Mangogna and her husband, Philip, of Newtown, Penn., and Michael Meany of Prospect survive Mr Meany, as does a brother; four wonderful grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Maryâs Church, Bethel, August 20. Interment in St Maryâs Cemetery will be private.
