Socks For Soldiers
Socks For Soldiers
To the Editor:
I am writing to ask for Newtownâs help. Once again this year, I am holding a drive to collect socks to support Soldiersâ Angels. These socks will be included in the Christmas baskets that they send our soldiers every year.
Sadly, this yearâs drive is doing extremely poorly. The last time we did this, we collected over 3,000 pairs of socks. To date, I have one package of three pairs of socks. What happened to the Newtown that I have always known to reach out and help when help was needed? Did you all really forget that we still have troops still out there fighting, being critically injured and dying every single day?
I am not too proud to beg. So I am begging all of you to please help. Most people think that whenever a soldier needs a new pair of socks, they just walk to the pile and pick a pair. Wrong! If we donât send these socks, they most likely wonât get new ones unless family or friends send them. To us they are a normal part of our every day dressing routine. To them, a fresh clean pair of socks is like gold.
I am going to ask once again for the people of Newtown to please help. I know the economy is tough on everyone, but even one pair from the dollar store is one more dry, clean pair of socks for another soldier. Please.
They need both menâs and womenâs crew socks in white, black or olive green. Any size. You can drop them off at my home at 77 Butterfield Road, Newtown. There is a bin on the front porch so you can bring them day or night. If you need someone to pick them up, please call 203-948-0584 to arrange a pick up.
The deadline is October 25 so that I can get them shipped to Soldiersâ Angels in time. We are also accepting donations to help defray the cost of shipping.
I know Newtown is capable of doing more. You have done it before. Please help.
Sincerely,
Joanne Brunetti
