The enforcement project will be conducted both daytime and nighttime. The project is part of a nationwide seatbelt enforcement drive by law enforcement agencies.

A local survey of 200 traveling vehicles conducted on November 1, indicated that 86 percent of drivers were wearing seatbelts, police said. The enforcement project will seek to increase that seatbelt compliance rate.

Last spring, police conducted a similar seatbelt enforcement project.

During that project, police issued 65 seatbelt citations and 18 seatbelt warnings. Also, police made one drunken driving arrest, and issued 51 citations and 103 warnings for various other motor vehicle offenses. After that enforcement project, the seatbelt compliance rate was 97.5 percent.
