Hazel Agnes Meyers

Gracious And Humble

Hazel Agnes Meyers, 79, died February 12, at Bethel Heath Care, surrounded by family members. She was born February 6, 1932, in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, a daughter of Emma Louise Swinhoe and William Edward Armstrong.

Mrs Meyers actively served eight years in the British Army as a driving instructor for 12-ton trucks. In 1961 Hazel moved to the United States. She initially settled in New York City, working for Harcourt Brace Javonovich as an editor. After relocating to Bridgeport, she was married and worked as a medical assistant for St Vincent’s Hospital.

She later moved to Newtown, where she worked for The Gordon Frazier Gallery for 13 years. She was a devoted mother and “Nana.” Mrs Meyers was a devout Catholic and member of St Rose of Lima Church parish in Newtown, where she resided for more than 43 years.

In the mid-1970s she was a founding member of the Adult Dance Program at The Lathrop School of Dance.

Those who knew her admired her for her graciousness and humility. She found peace in studying Scripture. She will be greatly missed by many.

She was previously married to the late George W. Meyers, Jr.

She is survived by a brother, Joe Armstrong of Scotland, UK. She is also survived by her three children, Michelle Meyers, George W. Meyers III, and Heather A. Yarberry, and her husband Scott. Four grandchildren also survive Mrs Meyers.
