Childrenâs Programs
Early Literacy Behaviors: Parents and others concerned with young children and how to help them develop better reading and writing skills are invited to attend a workshop at the Library on Wednesday, May 24, at 7 pm. Julie Birch, reading consultant for Head Oâ Meadow, and Alana Meloni, childrenâs librarian, will discuss early literacy behaviors and how to raise a reader. This workshop was developed as part of a Readerâs Digest mini grant for school and library collaboration.
Young Adult Volunteers: Young adults entering grade 6 and who are interested in volunteering for the libraryâs summer reading program should attend an organizational meeting, Wednesday, May 31, at 6:30 pm, in the childrenâs department. Last year young adults earned volunteer credit listening to younger children report on the books they were reading over the summer. Participation in this program provides a valuable service to the library and the children who sign up for the reading program. Call the library at 426-3851 to register. Pizza will be served and details worked out for the summer volunteer schedule. You must attend this meeting and a training session to be eligible to volunteer this summer, so mark your calendars!
