CWU To Host

Pre-Celebration Bible Study

The public is invited to attend a Church Women United (CWU) bible study on Friday, February 15, from 9:30 am until 2 pm, at Newtown United Methodist Church (NUMC), 92 Church Hill Road. Linda Manganaro of the local unit of CWU will be leading the study based on Job 28:20–28 and Luke 10:38–42.

“God’s Wisdom Provides New Understanding” is the theme of this study, which is a precursor of CWU’s upcoming World Day of Prayer celebration. This year’s World Day of Prayer will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, at 4 pm, also at the Methodist church and is also open to the public.

The study will outline the prosperity of Job, his innocent loss of the “good life,” and the temptation to lose faith in God as he suffers. It is a prophetic tale that relates in many ways to the suffering in the world today.

The Luke text presents an opportunity for playacting the roles of Mary and Martha and a chance to interpret the meaning of each of their roles in relation to Christ.

Mrs Manganaro, who has led many previous Bible studies, provides an interactive role for each participant and customarily provides some kind of memento that is created during the study to be brought home.

Participants should call Mrs Manganaro at 426-3496 to reserve a space and to make sure the proper number of supplies for the study will be available. Each participant should bring a bag lunch. Drinks and desserts will be provided.
