How Long In Newtown: I came to Newtown six years ago.

Family: I am divorced and have one son, Bert. I lost my other son 18 years ago. Bert’s wife, Linda, is a talented artist and website designer. My granddaughter, Veronica, is 12 years old and is an excellent tennis player. She has won many trophies.

Hobbies: I keep busy crocheting, knitting, doing needlepoint, and I am also relearning the game of bridge at the senior center.

This is not exactly a hobby, but I became a certified Medicare counselor in Rockland County, and they asked me to become a speaker. I said no, because I didn’t think I could do it, but now put me in front of a mike and I’m a ham!

When I came to Connecticut, I decided to do the same. I went to their training course because, though Medicare is a federal program, each state has its little differences.

Volunteer Work: I have been a volunteer for RSVP for approximately 19 years, and I have volunteered at Ashlar of Newtown for about a year, but had to leave because of ill health.

I have been volunteering at the Newtown Senior Center making afghans for the homeless and wheelchair patients.

Organizations: I was a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club and I recently joined a writing group at the Booth Library. One of my writings was published by the News-Times in their Jill Magazine this summer. That was exciting. I have never written anything before and this has been a great revelation.

Personal Philosophy: These are the Golden Years, and it’s true. When people complain about them, I ask, “What’s the alternative?” So, enjoy them the best you can as they are very few and very precious.
