Newtown Needs A Larger Senior Center
Newtown Needs
A Larger Senior Center
To the Editor:
I am a Newtown resident for three years and a member of the Newtown Senior Center. In this time period the number of seniors taking advantage of the centerâs many activities has significantly increased.
This attendance increase has resulted in: 1) a shortage of available parking and 2) seniors to be turned away because the rooms at the center in which the activities are held must conform to safety standards, thereby limiting the number of people per room per activity.
Newtown seniors comprise approximately 20 percent of the town population... and growing! What can be done to address these issues? A new larger Senior Center? Adapting an existing, nonused building to senior needs?
Nearby towns (Southbury, Monroe, Brookfield, New Fairfield) have large, beautiful accommodations for their aging population to enjoy.
I believe a new, improved center would encourage even more senior participation!
