Fifth-Graders Are Second

Newtown’s fifth grade football team reached the Candlewood Valley League title game and lost 14-0 to Ridgefield Black at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk this past Saturday.

Blocked by Adam Bell, Jack Wellman, and Mitchell Long, Nevin Zink ran for 16 yards and Gavin Stubbs caught a long pass by Patrick Conte. Despite several first downs, touchdowns were elusive for Newtown.

Outstanding defense by Liam Garrison, Bobby Haskins, and Joe Accousti forced several turnovers on downs, but Ridgefield punched through with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
