Street Directors

Needed For Parade

Labor Day Parade committee chairperson Kym Stendahl is looking for a few good men or women to help her out. Four or five volunteers are still needed to act as street directors during the September 4 Labor Day Parade.

Street directors are essential, said Ms Stendahl, to keep the parade flowing smoothly. Each street director is assigned a unit for which they are responsible. If the unit begins to lag, it is up to the street director to make sure that the unit gets back on track with the rest of the parade. “There was a time,” recalled Ms Stendahl, “when you would sit at the side of the parade route and there would be gaps of up to 20 minutes between units.” The implementation of street directors several years ago has successfully eliminated that problem.

Volunteer street directors should be able to move quickly, as they need to direct from the front, side, and rear of a unit, depending upon the issue. Many street directors opt to work on roller blades or bicycle, said Ms Stendahl.

To volunteer for a position as street director, contact Kym Stendahl at 241-3448.
