Dogs Welcome At Connecticut's First 'Bark For Life'
Dogs Welcome At Connecticutâs First âBark For Lifeâ
Because of event rules, Newtown dog lovers have been forced to leave their furry friends at home when their two-legged masters are out circling the track at the local Relay For Life. But now, for the first time in Connecticut, dog lovers will have a chance to raise money to help fight cancer with the help of their furry K-9s and the American Cancer Society.  Â
On Tuesday, July 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Berlin Lions Fairground in Berlin, people from all over the state will gather to honor the caregiving qualities of their canine friends in a walkathon called Bark For Life.Â
âWe know that many dog lovers have experienced cancer firsthand,â said Alexis Maliga of the American Cancer Society. âBark For Life is a new opportunity for people to join the fight against cancer while also acknowledging how much our dogs do for us.â
Since dogs are not permitted at Relay For Life events, Bark For Life gives those who view their dogs as support systems a chance to raise money for the fight against cancer.Â
Advance registration for the event is $25 with a commitment to raise funds for the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society. Registered dogs will receive a Bark For Life bandana to don during their walk against cancer and teams/individuals who raise $100 or more will receive a Bark For Life T-shirt.Â
Individual walkers and teams are both welcome to this event where there will be fun activities for dogs and their owners alike. Prizes will be given to the top fundraising dogs.Â
At this event, the American Cancer Society asks that all dogs are on a leash at all times and dog owners/participants are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. To sign up or for more information, contact the American Cancer Society at 203-379-4827 or visit RelayForLife.org/BarkForLifeCT.
All donations fund the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society.
