Smiths Celebrate Their Golden Anniversary
Longtime Newtown residents James and Marie Smith recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. A celebratory gathering was held at Carmen Anthonyâs Restaurant in Woodbury. The event was hosted by the Smithsâ children, Jay, Brian, Jacqueline, and Amy, and their respective spouses.
James Smith and Marie DelloRusso were married on July 18, 1959, at St Matthews in Dorchester, Mass. Peg OâConnor served as the maid of honor, Patricia DiVincenzo was the bridesmaid, Frank Smith was the best man, and Ralph Smith and Joe Grabinski were the ushers.
A reception followed at the American Legion Hall in Dorchester. The Smiths then toured New England for their honeymoon.
After the honeymoon James and Marie moved into a house on Little Brook Lane in Newtown. They raised their four children in that house, and are still living there today.
In addition to their children and sons- and daughters-in-law, James and Marie were also joined during the dinner reception in July by their grandchildren: Mariel Smith, Casey Smith, Jimmy Smith, Peter Smith, Megan Smith, Kelley McKearney, and Meghan McKearney.
At the dinner party they were presented with a picture collage and slide show presentation created by their grandchildren. The Smiths also received a proclamation that was sent by Governor M. Jodi Rell.Â
