Members of Newtown Middle Schoolâs Labels Are For Jars Club, a group of students dedicated to understanding one another, ventured to Newtownâs dog pound on Friday, December 17, with stockings filled with dog treats.
Thanks to club member Connor Lemayâs father, the group also had two bags of dog food to donate to the animal control facility.
The Labels Are For Jars Club started at the school in October, and has grown from four members to 27 members attending the clubâs last meeting, according to club advisor Arlene Spoonfeather.
âItâs just a group of students against labeling,â said one of the four club organizers, eighth grader Kole Giovannoni.
âOr bullying of any sort,â fellow club organizer eighth grader Lexi Samuels continued.
Eighth graders Ashley Marx and Tricia Sullivan also brought the club together with Kole and Lexi.
During normal meetings, according to Ashley, club members âjust talk, hang out, and have fun.â
Lexi explained the goal of the club is to get people to be nicer to one another.
Visiting the dog pound and spreading holiday cheer to the dogs â Chevy, Rocky, Maximus, Russell, Theo, Winston, and Taz â was Ms Spoonfeatherâs idea, according to the students.
âIf anyone from the middle school or high school wants to join,â said Lexi, âthe more the merrier.â
The Newtown Middle School Labels Are For Jars Club meets every other Wednesday.Â
