Infractions

On November 26 at about 11:13 pm Newtown officers conducted a routine motor vehicle stop at 29 High Rock Road and discovered the driver, Michael Saladis, 18, of Nashville Road in Bethel was reportedly in possession of less that half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The operator was issued an infraction for the offenses.

No Permission

Newtown Police report that on November 26, they arrested a 15-year-old for taking a motor vehicle without permission and operating without a license. The individual, whose name was withheld because of age, was released on a written promise to appear in court. No other details were released.

Suspended License

At about 5:54 pm on November 30, Newtown Police stopped a vehicle near 42 High Bridge Road. It was then determined that the driver, James Sheriden, 44, of Honey Lane, Sandy Hook was operating with a suspended license. He was issued a misdemeanor summons for the offense, as well as for operating too fast. He was then released on a written promise to appear in court on December 13.

Insulation Found

Police located a roll of commercial insulation at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Lone Oak Meadows on November 22 around 11:49 am. Anyone missing the insulation may contact police at 203-426-5841 to pick it up at headquarters.

Tree Cut

Police are seeking the person or persons who cut down a six-foot-tall evergreen tree from property near the intersection of Windy Wood Circle and Parmalee Hill Road sometime on November 30 between 6 pm and midnight. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Scott Smith at 203-426-5841.

Eggs Thrown

Anyone who can assist police in identifying who may have thrown eggs at a home on Taunton Hill Road on November 27 is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Outstanding Warrant

James W. Andrew, 51, of Wolfpits Road, Bethel turned himself in to Newtown Police December 3 after learning of an active warrant for his arrest. The arrest stems from a crash on November 2 near 172 Mt Pleasant Road, where the individual was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and failure to drive right. He was released on a $100 cash bond pending a court appearance on December 20.

Breach Of Peace

Newtown police report that on December 3 at about 10:23 pm, they arrested Eliza Hoffman, 50, of Brandywine Lane on a charge of breach of peace following a complaint. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on December 5.

Separate Court Dates

On December 5 at about 11:38 pm, Newtown Police observed a vehicle driving north on Route 25 with its registration plate illumination light out and stopped the operator to investigate. It was determined that both the driver’s license and vehicle registration were suspended, and Justin Rogliano, 29 of Appleblossom Lane was arrested and charged with the related offenses. During processing, it was determined that he was wanted on a warrant from Stratford, where he was charged with operating under suspension, failure to obey a control signal, and failure to appear in the second-degree. He was released from Newtown custody on a written promise to appear in Danbury court on December 20, and then paid a $1,500 court mandated surety bond to be released on the warrant charges pending a December 21 court date in Bridgeport.

Deer Struck

On December 5 at about 7:51 pm, police reported that Meaghan Berry, 44, of Erin Lane, Sandy Hook was operating a 2002 Volvo station wagon on Great Ring Road when she hit a deer, causing damage to the vehicle. No charges were filed and police said there was no injury to the driver.

Minor Collision

Newtown Police say Jeffrey Helgren, 54, of Rock Ridge Road was charged with failure to grant the right of way after a minor collision December 5 at about 4:39 pm at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road. According to the report, the operator, driving a 1997 Subaru station wagon, attempted to turn from Queen Street onto Mile Hill Road and made contact with a 2005 Ford Taurus being driven eastbound on Mile Hill Road by Renee Backman of Oxford. There were no injuries sustained by either driver or passengers in the offending vehicle.

Mail Box Vandalism

Newtown Police are seeking information regarding several mailboxes that were vandalized in the area of Charter Ridge Road and Orange Pippin Road sometime between 11:30 pm December 3 and 9 am December 4. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.

Toddy Hill Rollover

Police are investigating a rollover crash that occurred December 6 around 3:34 pm on Toddy Hill Road near the intersection of Button Shop Road, in which Nicholas Szabo, 42, of Swamp Road sustained injuries. According to the report, the driver was operating a 2000 GMC Jimmy SUV northbound on the rain-slicked roadway when he lost control and crashed. He was subsequently transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance for unknown injuries.

Rear Bumper Damage

On December 6 at about 12:29 pm, Newtown officers responded to a minor rear-end crash at Berkshire Road south of Toddy Hill Road. According to the report, Michael Dregner, 53, of Gibbstown, N.J., was traveling east in a 2010 Ford van when he came in contact with the rear bumper of a 2011 Mercedes E being operated by Thomas Mulrane, 66 of Mt Laurel Lane, Sandy Hook. Dregner was charged with following too close, and no injuries were reported. Both vehicles were drivable from the scene.

Minor Injuries

Newtown ambulance volunteers and a paramedic treated a driver and occupant of a 2001 Nissan Stanza after it went off Mt Pleasant Road, struck a tree and overturned at about 1:41 am on December 7. Police report that the vehicle was traveling eastbound near Johnny Cake lane when it left the roadway, traveled about 100 feet on the shoulder and struck the tree, causing the car to roll onto its passenger side. The driver, Lif Torrejon, 27, of Main Street in Bridgeport, was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions. She and her passenger both sustained bumps and scratched, but refused transport to a hospital. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Hattertown DUI

Newtown Police arrested Casey Day, 21, of Dug Hill Road on DUI charges December 2 at about 3:51 am after responding to a rollover crash near 27 Hattertown Road. Police also charged to operator with making a restricted turn, and released Day on a $100 bond pending a December 16 court appearance.

Following Too Close

On December 2 at about 12:03 pm, police responded to a report of a rear-end collision on South Main Street near Elizabeth Street. According to the report, Robert Shaw, 83, of Stone Fence Lane was operating a 2008 Buick LaCrosse northbound behind a 1999 GMC Suburban when the Suburban pulled over for an approaching ambulance. The Buick struck the rear of the SUV causing minor damage to both vehicles. Shaw was charged with following too close. No injuries were reported.

Slick Highway

State Police reported that on December 7 at about 8:31 am Cheryl Jablonowski, 29, of Beacon Manor Circle in Naugatuck was operating a 2010 Ford Fusion westbound on Interstate 84 just east of Exit 11, when she slid into the rear of a 1995 Honda that had stopped for traffic. The driver of the Honda, Paulina Fontanez, 20, of Waterbury complained of a possible neck injury but reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene. The offending driver was charged with traveling too fast for conditions.

Traveling Too fast

On December 6 at about 9:12 am, State Police responded to the area of the Exit 9 on ramp of Interstate 84 after a report of a minor rear-end collision. Police say Nicholas Johnson, 26, of Soap Street in Dayville was operating a 2002 Nissan sedan when he failed to stop before hitting a 2007 Scion TC being operated by Matty Feldman, 21, of John Beach Road in Newtown. Johnson was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Guardrail Collision

State Police responded to a single car crash on the Exit 10 on ramp to Interstate 84 at about 9:57 am on December 6. According to the report, Nicholas Gabor, 27, of Stratford was attempting to enter the highway driving a 2005 Ford Ranger when he apparently lost control on a curve striking a metal beam guardrail, damaging the left rear of the pickup truck. The operator was determined to be at fault and was charged with traveling too fast for conditions.
