Continued Education Course Openings

Newtown Continuing Education has limited space in some of its upcoming classes. To register or for additional information contact Elissa Gellis at the Continuing Ed office, 426-1787. Details follow:

*Computers For The Beginners is for those who have little exposure to personal computers (PCs) and software programs and want a basic introduction to terms and computer basics, use Microsoft Windows, and start using the Internet.

Three classes, Mondays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, will begin March 3. Course fee is $89.

*A trip to the Boston Spring Flower Show on Saturday, March 8, will leave Newtown at 8:30 am.

Cost is $56, and there will be time for lunch on your own.

*The Basics of Quickbooks will cover the key features of a popular business finance software including income and expense tracking, checkbook management, credit card usage, liability accounts, customer lists, vendor lists, invoicing, and business reports.

Three classes will meet on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm beginning March 6. Course fee is $89.

*Intro to Web Page Design Using Dreamweaver 8 will help attendees create an effective website using one of the industry’s leading software set-ups. Learn how to design, format, work with images, and link web pages together with a user-friendly application, as well as learn how to register for a personalized web address and publish online.

Cost is $94 for the five-session course that will meet on Mondays from 6:30 to 9 pm, beginning March 3.

*Everyday Photoshop Elements will cover how to correct common photo problems – digital photos with red eye, how to scan old photos, etc – using Photoshop Elements. Learn how to improve overall tonality and exposure of photos and make snapshots into works of art.

Fee is $124 for the six-session class, which will meet Mondays from 6:30 to 9 pm beginning March 10.

*Public Speaking and Leadership 101 will offer an analysis for anxiety-causing factors that inhibit many potential speakers, explore defusing perceived fears and problem areas with practical remedies, and delve into critical listening.

Eight classes will meet on Mondays from 7 to 9 pm beginning March 10. Course fee is $89.

*Learn To Knit will cover the basics for the beginner and second-time around knitter. Students will learn to knit, purl, cast-on, increase, decrease, bind-off, gauge switching, and lots more.

Participants will need their own #8 knitting needles and worsted weight knitting yarn to the first class. Additional materials will be discussed on the first night.

Six classes will meet on Mondays from 7 to 9 pm starting March 10. Fee is $89.

*Sewing for The Sometime Sewer is designed to help the sometime sewer improve their knitting skills. The course will cover making samples of seams and hems, bindings, bias tape and facings; making samples of both bound and machine buttonholes; learning the proper method of sewing snaps and hooks and eyes; reading a pattern; and completing a simple project selected by the instructor.

In addition to the basic supplies (call for a list), a materials fee of $25 is also required and can be paid to the instructor the first night of the class.

Eight classes, meeting Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30, will begin March 13. Course fee is $104.
