 NHS To Stage ‘Sweeney Todd’ This Weekend

The Newtown High School’s Drama Club is set to take the stage this weekend, Thursday through Sunday, March 15 through 18, with this year’s musical production of Sweeney Todd.

Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd follows a man who seeks revenge after learning his wife poisoned herself after being abused by a local judge.

In posts on the high school’s blog, the production has been described as a thriller without gore, a school edition of the musical.

Performances of the musical are set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 15–17, at 7 pm. On Sunday, March 18, the production will be at 2 pm.

Reserved tickets cost $16, general admission for the performance will cost $14, and tickets for seniors and students are set for $12.

The part of Sweeney Todd/Benjamin Barker will be played by Ben Stoller, Alexandra Aug will play Mrs Nellie Lovett, Kayla O’Leary will play Johanna Barker, Donny Morrissey will play Anthony Hope, Ishaar Gupta will play Judge Turpin, Taylor Varga will play Tobias Ragg, Nick Madden will play Beadle Bamford, Luke Shearin will play Adolfo Pirelli/Daniel O’Higgins, Maddie Dorso will play Beggar Woman/Lucy Barker, and Josh Goldman will play the part of Mr Fogg.

Male ensemble members in the production are Neil Davis, Joseph DeVellis, Jeff Haylon, Humza Hashmi, Austin Isola, C.J. Landgrebe, Kyle Mangold, John Mudgett, Aidan Petershack, Thomas Primavera, Kyle Simmons, David Swigart, Alexander Lee Taylor, Tristan Villamil, and Kyle Watkins.

NHS Choral Director Jane Matson directed the production, Morgan Winters is the producer, Alli Lalli is the assistant producer, Sean Watkins is the stage manager, and Olivia Koziol is the dance captain for the production.
