Three-Car Crash

Police report a three-car accident on Route 34, east of its intersection with Wasserman Way, about 5:30 pm September 21.

Motorist Julie Mathison, 23, of 29 Mohawk Trail, who was driving a 2002 Ford Focus, was stopped on eastbound Route 34 behind a stopped 1999 Saturn SL-2 driven by Cody Foss, 22, of 43 Spring Trail, police said. Eastbound motorist Christopher Gelada, 24, of Southbury, who was driving a 1989 Buick Century, then struck the Ford from behind, pushing the Ford into the rear end of the Saturn, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Mathison to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident.

Police issued Gelada an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Ford Vs Deer

Motorist David Charbonneau, 42, of Thomaston, who was driving a 1994 Ford Explorer northward on Toddy Hill Road near Settlers Lane about 6:18 pm September 21, encountered a deer that had entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Charbonneau was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.

Truck Into Bridge

Trucker Robert Lee Morris, 59, of Decatur, Ga., who was driving a 1998 Volvo truck southward on Botsford Hill Road about 7 pm September 21, attempted to drive beneath the Housatonic Railroad overpass, but the truck cab’s air shield struck the bridge causing minor damage to the bridge, police report.

Morris then backed up but struck several mailboxes at 26 Botsford Hill Road, damaging them, police said. Morris was not injured.

Police issued Morris a written warning for failure to obey bridge-clearance signs and marking, and verbally warned him for unsafe backing.
