Phonographs & Toys At Stanton's

VERMONTVILLE, MICH. -- Stanton Auctioneers sold the estate of Arthur Wohl of

Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. which included a collection of antique phonographs and

automated musical items. This collection, in addition to a group of early

toys, were liquidated in Charlotte, Mich. this spring.

Mr Wohl's collection was brought from his one bedroom apartment in New York

that was packed from floor to ceiling. Mr Wohl was an avid collector who was

blind for the last twenty years of his life. He was very knowledgeable; even

though he was blind he was capable of doing certain repair work on the

machines in his collection.

Among the items sold were an Edison Opera with cygnet horn, $9,000;

Reginaphone #240 15« disc music box, $9,000; Buddy L road roller toy made

circa 1929-31, $5,850; Buddy L auto wrecking truck w/rubber tires, $4,250;

Sturdi coal truck, $3,000; Victor VI phonograph, $7,000; Mira floor model disc

music box, $7,000; Jolly Nigger mechanical bank, $150; Always Did Despise a

Mule mechanical bank, $700; Bad Accident mechanical bank, $875; Buddy L chain

dump truck, $450; Bing Pigmyphone child's phono, $375; Edison 1A Amberola,

$3,750; Nifty Norona child's phono, $400; Victor II phono with oak horn,

$2,650; Grand Roller organ with large wood cob, $3,500, to a French buyer.

Also, a Mikiphone with needle tin, $650; J. Raffin street organ, $5,500;

Victor M phono, $2,000; Edison Triumph with cygnet horn, $1,100; Victor E,

$1,250; Harley Davidson sign, $1,200 (tin); Columbia Graphophone type Q with

nickel horn and aluminum cast base, $1,000; Buddy L coach with opening and

closing doors, $2,950; aluminum spun horn, $425; Fairy lamp phonograph,

$2,500; Symphonion 12 inch disc music box, $2,000; Mermod Fres cylinder music

box, $2,000; vertical portable disc phonograph used by Jehovah's Witness

group, $100; cylinder music box with inlaid case, $1,400; gem wood cob roller

organ, $375; and an Edison diamond disc floor model phonograph model C-19 in

rare chinoiserie decorated case with long and regular reproducers, $4,100.

The auction attracted attention from across the United States, as well as

Canada, Europe, and Japan. Catalogs with post sale price list are still
