Anne Titcomb

Former Resident, Historian

Anne (Stewart) Titcomb, age 77, died April 12. She was the wife of Rodney D. Titcomb, to whom she had been married for 55 years.

Mrs Titcomb was born and raised in Fall River, Mass. She was a daughter of William L. Stewart and Fanny Downhill Stewart. She received her BA degree from Bates College and her master’s degree from the University of Maryland. After living in California, Maryland, and Connecticut, including Newtown for many years, she returned to Fall River in retirement.

While in Connecticut she was secondary school librarian in New Fairfield and Newtown, a position she also held Severna Park, Md. In retirement she was a volunteer at the Maryland State Law Library in Annapolis, Md., and at Blithewold Mansion in Bristol, R.I. She was a former member of the American Library Association and the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Her interests included genealogy, traditional rug hooking, reading, and needlework.

A member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Fall River, Mrs Titcomb was also a member of the National Genealogy Society, Massachusetts Historical and Genealogy Society, The Woman’s Club of Fall River, Tiverton (RI) Historical Society, and The Historical Society of Old Newburyport.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Dorn Fisher of Arlington, Va., and Elizabeth Biesel of McLean, Va., and a son, Rodney Stewart Titcomb of Severna Park, Md., as well as seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was also the sister of William Stewart of Little Compton, R.I., and Joan Ryan of S.C.

A memorial service will be held at Adams House on April 23 at 2 pm. In lieu of, memorial gifts may be made to Adams House, 1168 Highland Avenue, Fall River, MA 02720.
