Edward J. Dick, 79, husband of Judy (Collins) Dick of Shady Rest Boulevard, Sandy Hook, died January 28 in Danbury Hospital.
Mr Dick was born in Carbondale, Penn., February 14, 1919, a son of the late Anthony and Clara (Balcon) Dick. Formerly of North Massapequa, N.Y., he was a resident of Sandy Hook the past 30 years. He was a claims manager for Allstate Insurance Company for 26 years until retiring 12 years ago. Mr Dick was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy.
For 16 years, Mr Dick was the president of the Shady Rest Association. He was a charter member of the Lake Zoar Authority and served as a constable for the Town of Newtown. He was a longtime member of the Newtown Republican Town Committee. Mr Dick served on the Board of Directors of Housing for the Elderly. He had been a volunteer driver for both Meals on Wheels and FISH.
Besides his wife, he is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held January 31 from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in St Rose Cemetery in the spring.
