Music For
Every Moment
Many couples have a special song or two, something that reminds them perhaps of the first time they met, the first time they danced together, different points in their courtship, maybe even the song they listened to after their first fight. Music has always been something that can call up memories, and your wedding day is one day when the right music will mean everything to the two of you.
Of course you are going to want to hear âyourâ song played at your reception. Thatâs the easy part. But what about music for the rest of the day?
Following is a list for brides and grooms to consider when they are planning the music that will accompany them from the beginning to the end of their wedding day.
Music will need to be selected for the ceremony. There should be music for the Prelude, Processional, Interlude, the lighting of the unity candle, and the Recessional.
When hiring a DJ or band, remember to make a list of what you want and what you donât want to hear at your reception. Youâre paying them to make the party a hit, after all; you are allowed to ask them to refrain from playing certain songs. DJs and band leaders should be able to delicately explain to a guest that a song will not be played at the request of the newlyweds.
For the reception, there are a number of special dances that also need to be considered. Remember to select songs for the coupleâs first dance, the father/daughter dance, the mother/son dance, and any other special family dances. There should also be songs for the entire wedding party, the cake cutting, the garter and bouquet proceedings, and a final dance.
