State Police Find 100-Plus Bags Of Heroin In Vehicle
State police report that after stopping a motorist on the afternoon January 7 in the commuter parking lot on Hawleyville Road, near Exit 9 of Interstate 84, they found more than 100 bags of heroin in the vehicle that he was driving.
State police said they had seen a vehicle with darkly tinted windows and lacking a front marker plate traveling westward on I-84, after which they stopped it at the commuter parking lot to investigate.
Motorist Kennie Ivan Velazquez, 21, of East Hartford was found to be driving with a suspended license and was then taken into custody without incident, state police said.
During a search of the vehicle, state police located 108 bags of heroin under the ashtray in the auto, they said. The heroin bags bore the likeness of Tigger, a fictional tiger character in the Winnie The Pooh stories, according to state police. Also, $371 in US currency was seized in the arrest, state police said.
Charges against Velazquez include possession of narcotics, distribution of narcotics, driving with a suspended license, failure to display a front marker plate, and unauthorized tinting of automotive window glass.
Velazquez was held on $10,000 bail for January 8 court arraignment.
