Paul Somesla, 89, of Fairfield, died February 3 at his home. Born on March 7, 1916, in New Jersey, he was raised in Manhattan and Long Island.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Katherine Somesla, and four loving children, Lynda Somesla Rockwell of Newtown, Diane Somesla Miner of Newtown, Karen Somesla of Easton, and Paul Somesla, Jr, of Fairfield; three sisters, Annie Zuzchik, Pauline Pennenga, and Jeannie Somesla; and three granddaughters, Kimberly Miner, Jessica Rockwell, and Kaitlyn Miner. Mr Someslaâs brothers, William and Johnny, predeceased him in death along with two sisters, Helen and Mary Somesla.
Mr Somesla joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Big Springs, Tenn., at the age of 18. He married Katherine on October 8, 1940, and served in the US Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Following the war, he built his own home in Fairfield and worked as an insurance adjuster. He became an expert in auto body repair and opened Town Line Auto Body in Monroe, which he owned and operated for nearly 20 years.
He will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated family man, mild mannered and always ready to give his time to help others. He was a man of few words and no pretenses and made people feel comfortable and welcome.
A prayer service was held on Sunday, February 5. Interment was in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, was in charge of arrangements.
