Cleaning Services Come To Dodgingtown

(with cut)

BY JAN HOWARD

A new dry cleaners, Executive Cleaners & Tailors, has opened at 57 Dodgingtown

Road.

The dry cleaning establishment may be new at that location, but the owners,

the Magliocco family, have provided services in Newtown for over 35 years at

Hi-Way Cleaners & Tailors located at 103 South Main Street.

The family also owns Executive Cleaners & Tailors in New Fairfield and

Superior Cleaners & Tailors in Danbury.

Anthony and Rita Magliocco, who reside in New Fairfield and have been

semi-retired for the past three years, started the family business in 1967 on

Church Hill Road. In 1988, the business moved to its current location in

Colonial Park Plaza.

Anthony Magliocco, who had worked in the dry cleaning industry prior to

starting his own business, opened the Danbury store in 1971. The New Fairfield

store was opened in 1998.

Frank Magliocco is following in his father's footsteps.

"I grew up in the business," he said this week. "I have worked for my father

on a full-time basis since 1981."

"Ever since he was five years old, he's been helping me. He's helped me out

all the time," Anthony Magliocco said. "It's a family thing."

Frank Magliocco and his wife Patti, who live in Brookfield, opened the

Dodgingtown business on December 21 in the complex that also houses

Dodgingtown Wine & Liquor and Dodgingtown Market & Deli.

They decided to open a second business in Newtown because of an expressed need

for a dry cleaners in the Dodgingtown area.

"We were approached to open here," Frank Magliocco said, noting the owner of

the Dodgingtown market & Deli, George Hamilakis, contacted him after talking

to residents in the area who said a dry cleaners was needed in that part of

town.

"At first, we said no," Frank Magliocco said. In the meantime, another

cleaners opened in the area and then went out of business. It was then the

family decided to start up their second establishment in Newtown at the

Dodgingtown site.

In addition to dry cleaning, the business does laundry by the pound, men's

shirts, leather and suede, storage of furs, and tailoring, including hemming

and replacement of zippers.

The store, which employs three full and part-time workers, provides same-day

service (in by 9:30 am, out by 5 pm).

The Dodgingtown store's hours are Monday to Friday, 7 am to 7 pm; Saturday, 8

am to 6 pm; and Sunday, closed. The telephone number is 270-5597.
