Concert Was A

Tercentennial High Note

To the Editor:

The Newtown Choral Society played to an exuberant crowd May 14 when they presented their Tercentennial Concert at the Meeting House.

The music chosen by our director, Mary Andreotta, spanned the history of the United States in general and New England and Connecticut specifically and Susan Anthony-Klein both accompanied us and inspired us with her musical artistry and integrity.

We were delighted to have pianist Patricia Lutnes join us for the pieces that required four hands.

We thank Tom Paisley and the Board of The Meeting House for preserving such a music friendly venue.

Shannon Hicks and Kaaren Valenta of The Newtown Bee have been a big part of our ability to attract new members as well as fill The Meeting House with as large an audience as we did.

We also would like to thank Sybil Blau and the News-Times for their terrific help.

We thank Jonathan Pope of Newtown Middle School for his ongoing support of the choir. Thanks also go to the office and custodial staff of the middle school.

We thank Alan Corbeil for collecting tickets and giving out programs and Michael Corbeil for his help in setting up. We thank David Foss for his help in moving our equipment.

And, we also thank Miracle Graphics of Bethel, which is owned by Newtown High School graduate Sarah Gello Becker, for their tremendous contribution in designing and printing our program

Finally, we must thank my husband Kenneth. Through the years, Kenneth’s support of the choir has never wavered. When we need his computer skills, he is there; when we need his intelligence, he is there; when we need his muscle, he is there and he does it all with elegant patience.

The Newtown Choral Society, which is in its 19th year, will begin its once weekly rehearsals for its December concert in September. Under the continuing direction of Mary Andreotta, our members run the gamut from highly accomplished singers to novices. We welcome new members and require only that new members have a love of singing and be willing to learn. Please call me at 426-3769 if you would like to discuss joining the Newtown Choral Society.
