In Road Funding
Newtownâs State Representative Christopher Lyddy announced March 17, that the State Bond Commission released millions in funding that will underwrite paving projects and road repairs across the state, including Newtown.
Rep Lyddy said Newtown is expected to receive $234,338 in Town Aid Road (TAR) grants. TAR funds are typically released in January but were held back this year by Governor Rell, who chairs the Bond Commission.
âWhen we approved our budget, we made sure to include this important municipal aid for much-needed road improvements that also helps to stabilize local property taxes,â Rep Lyddy said. âI am pleased to see that Newtown will be getting this much needed assistance, but I do not understand why the governor did not release the funds until nowâ
AÂ total of $30 million in TAR grants was approved by the State Bond Commission on Tuesday, March 16, and the funds are expected to be delivered to towns within 30 days.
