Act Will Help Sick Veterans

To the Editor:

The US Senate is currently considering passing the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution (FAIR) Act — a pioneering piece of legislation for many sick veterans.

These veterans contracted fatal, asbestos-related diseases while serving their country. Many were exposed to asbestos on Navy ships and in shipyards. By law, these veterans cannot sue the US government, making it difficult, if not impossible, to receive compensation through the courts for this harmful exposure.

The FAIR Act would overhaul the asbestos litigation system by creating a victims’ trust fund and providing aid to any sick victim of asbestos exposure — including veterans.

For this reason, I hope our Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman vote to help veterans by passing this crucial bipartisan piece of legislation.

Sincerely,

Stuart Headford
