WATERBURY â Excited about taking college classes online, but donât know where to begin? Are you wondering if online classes are for you? Here are a few helpful tips from Teikyo Post University in Waterbury to answer your questions and get you going.
Try a sample online course. To figure out whether online classes are really for you, and to get a sense of what it is like to navigate around an online classroom, try a sample online class. Visit the Web site for the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium, www.ctdlc.org, and log onto their sample online course by selecting log in as a âguest,â then follow the instructions.
Once youâve tried the sample course, you are ready to try a real online class. If you arenât sure which class to take, or which degree program is right for you, Lisa Peck, academic advisor for the Accelerated Degree Programs at Teikyo Post University, can discuss degree programs and course options with you. She can be reached by e-mail at lpeck@teikyopost.edu or 800/582-8250.
Although up to four classes can be taken at Teikyo Post University Online before you need to apply for admission to the university, you are encouraged to apply for admission before you begin taking classes, especially if financial aid is needed. An application for admission is on the Web site at www.teikyopost.edu/register/forms/adponlinereg.shtml.
Payment arrangements must be made through the student accounts office (e-mail hbrown@teikyopost.edu); for financial aid questions e-mail pdelbuonno@teikyopost.edu.
Immunization records also must be complete before classes begin. The state of Connecticut requires proof that students have been immunized against measles and rubella (German measles). If you are taking classes online only, you must complete an âImmunization Waiverâ form; if you will be taking any classes on campus or at one of the off campus sites, you will need to send in a âProof of Immunizationâ form.
To get books for online classes, e-mail the university bookstore (bookstore@teikyopost.edu). Books will be sent via UPS.
First-time online students with Teikyo Post University will receive a user name, password and welcome package (helpful hints about getting into your new course) one day before the beginning of class. If you have taken an online class before, you will keep the user name and password from your last online class, but you will still receive a welcome package.
