Health Clinic For Veterans

DANBURY — The VA Connecticut Health Care System will conduct a free health screening for area veterans on Monday, March 6, at Ives Manor, 198 Main Street, in Danbury.

Appointments are required and may be arranged by calling Pat Waldron, director of veteran’s affairs, at 797-4620.

The program is open to any honorably discharged veteran not currently enrolled in any VA medical clinic, who has not had a VA health screening in the past year. Included in the screening is a review of the veteran’s health history, as well as cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and hearing check. Participants will be given a home test kit to screen for colorectal cancer. No fasting or special diet is required for the screening.

Veterans will have the opportunity to learn about benefits they are eligible to receive and also will be registered with the VA Health Care System in case services are needed in the future.

This free examination takes approximately 30 minutes. Veterans must bring their discharge papers (DD214) or a copy to determine eligibility. If the veteran is married, he must also be able to supply his wife’s social security number and birth date for the registration process and to determine the level of benefits.

All area veterans are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for free health screening.
