Miss Teen Connecticut International Pageant ââ Young women between the ages of 13 and 19 are eligible to participate in this pageant, to be held May 17â18.. The winner will represent Connecticut in the Miss Teen International competition in Chicago the last week in July. This pageant celebrates and promotes education, family values, physical fitness, community service, and individuality. For more information and an application, view www.missteeninternational.us.
ConnTESOL Scholarships ââ (Connecticut Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages) will be awarding two scholarships to high school seniors. A $500 award will be given to a high school senior presently or previously enrolled in ESOL or bilingual education classes and is planning to attend a four-year college in the fall. Another $250 award will be given to high school senior planning to attend a community college. The deadline for applications is May 2.
USS Connecticut Scholarship Program ââ The scholarship program was named for the State of Connecticutâs flagship vessel, the submarine USS Connecticut (SSN 22). The ship presents several scholarships every year to eligible members of the present and past crew or their dependents and to eligible citizens of the state who plan to study at a Connecticut college or university. Last year 13 merit scholarships were awarded: three to dependants of the members of the shipâs crew, and 11 to citizens of the state who planned to attend college in Connecticut. All scholarship awards are based on a combination of academic merit and merit demonstrated by involvement in relevant academic, civic, professional, and cultural organizations. Completed applications are due by April 30. More information is available in the Career Center.
Newtown High School Student Government 2003 Scholarship ââ A $500 award will be given to two students who have demonstrated leadership and scholarship in their four-year high school career. The student must have an average of 85 or above, possess leadership qualities, and have been accepted to a post-high school program (college, university, technical/vocational school, etc). Essay is required. Applications are due to Mrs Schwartz in the guidance office by Friday, April 25.
