Local Man Arrested In Seymour On Multiple Charges
SEYMOUR -- Police report they charged a Newtown man on the morning of June 28
with first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, third-degree assault and
threatening in connection with a case of domestic violence at an undisclosed
location.
Seymour Police Lieutenant Paul Beres said June 30 police charged Francis
Fortin, 28, of 301 South Main Street, Newtown, with the offenses.
Mr Fortin allegedly called a former girlfriend, whom police did not identify,
and then forced in a rear door where the woman was staying with another man,
whom police also did not identify.
The first-degree burglary charge stems from Fortin allegedly forceably
entering the residence through a door.
The second-degree assault charge results from Fortin allegedly hitting the
unidentified man in the head with a wooden stool, requiring that the man go to
Griffin Hospital in Derby where he was treated for injuries and released,
according to police.
The third-degree assault charge stems from Fortin attacking the woman who was
not seriously injured and required no hospital treatment, according to police.
The threatening charge results from Fortin telling the woman and the man that
they were both "dead," according to police.
Fortin later turned himself in to police at the police station. He was held
overnight on a $100,000 bond for arraignment on the charges June 29 in Derby
Superior Court.
