 Re-Opening Of Monroe Store
MONROE â Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut will have a grand re-opening of the Goodwill Store and Donation Center at 574 Monroe Turnpike on Friday, November 3. A fire shut the store down in October of 1999.
The festivities will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 am. The event will feature balloons, free gifts, a drawing, refreshments, and plenty of bargains. A Star99 radio personality will broadcast a live remote on location from 10 am to noon.
The first Monroe Goodwill Store opened on Route 25 in 1989. To obtain more selling space, easier access, and better parking, Goodwill officials moved the store to its present location at 574 Monroe Turnpike in February of 1997.
Goodwill stores carry a wide variety of gently used clothing, furniture, linens, accessories, housewares, small appliances, collectibles, books, toys, sports equipment, and other miscellaneous items donated by a generous community. Donations are tax deductible.
The reconstructed Monroe Goodwill store will feature an additional 2,000 square feet of selling space with a drive-up donation center in the rear of the building. The new, customer-friendly store is a spacious facility allowing for the display of a large number of quality goods with room for a large âboutiqueâ area for better quality name brands selling for very low prices. The store and donation center will be open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 am to 8:30 pm, and on Sunday, from 11 am to 6 pm.
Goodwill Industries is a non-profit provider of vocational services for individuals with disabilities, welfare dependency, and special needs. Revenues generated by Goodwill stores fund community-based job training, placement, and support programs. Recently, Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut expanded existing employment and support programs and created new services that help people with disabilities and those trapped in the cycles of welfare dependency achieve independence and self-sufficiency.
New efforts include a daycare center, an acquired brain injury program, additional residential service, workforce development programs that offer training in the areas of home health aide, computer repair, office computer skills, medical administrative assistant, retail and manufacturing technology, and GoodTemps, a program that provides training and employment to the people served by Goodwill while offering temporary business services to the local community.
