Beloved Grandfather,
Avid Fisherman
William Sarkozi, 98, of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died September 30 at Danbury Hospital with his family by his side, after a short illness. Mr Sarkozi was born on April 6, 1907, in Hungary, and came to the United States when he was 12 years old.
He is survived by his grandson, Karl Sieling and his wife, Cathy, and their family with whom he lived in Sandy Hook; three daughters, Valerie Sarason, Roberta Pothanszky, and Suzanne Ettinger; two nephews, Robert and Richard Bognar; four granddaughters, Elyse Dent, Phoebe Sarason, Karla Hillman, and Robin Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashely, Amanda, and Billy Sieling, Sara and Darcy Mas, Zac Dent, and Simon Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Theresa; his wife, Valerie, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage; his sister, Gertrude Bognar; and brother, Ernest Sarkozi; and his great-grandson, Randy Mas.
He was an active member of St Emeryâs Church in Fairfield, where he served as an usher for more than 50 years, and helped with the church Bingo. Bill was an avid bowler, fisherman, and hunter.
The funeral was October 4 in the Larson Funeral Home, Bridgeport. Burial was in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
