25 People Times 4 Hours

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, Vigilius Council, #185, I would like to express our deep gratitude to those 25 volunteers who joined us on Saturday, May 13, to make a difference in the lives of a Newtown family.  In just four hours, these men, women and high school students removed 20 trees, cleared a half acre lot, replaced and insulated a kitchen ceiling and painted the exterior of the house.

I would also like to thank Fred Pendergast, Newtown Garbage Removal, for his generous donation of two dumpsters, Herb Rosenthal for the town’s assistance with the processing of the dumpsters, Father Weiss for donating the use of three extension ladders, Martin Blais Exterior Siding, and J & G Lock & Sons for felling the large trees.

Illness of old age can quickly humble us all. We thank God for these volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help this family that was…at our Gate.
