A tight, exciting finish is exactly the way you would want to close out the season.

And Beeline Woodworking and Tre Ragazze provided that – and more – when Beeline nipped Tre Ragazze, 5-4, on August 17 to capture the Newtown Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League championship at Treadwell Park.

Nancy Bowen had a couple of hits and two RBI while Shelby Rotunda went 2-for-4 with a single, triple and RBI and added a game-winning catch at shortstop. Lindsey Carley went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.

Justine Kohlsaat, Missy Jones and Laurie Dale all played great games.

For Tre Ragazze, Brandy Arnold was, once again, a stalwart defensive shortstop as Kim O’Rourke and Collen Ruiz also came up big defensively with catches in the second and forth innings, respectively, to take away extra base hits from Beeline.

At the plate, Fawn Schmidt went 4-for-4 with a booming RBI into left field in the seventh inning to bring Tre Ragazze to within one. Ruiz went 3-for-3 as Tisha Mullins and Arnold each went 3-for-4.

Also contributing to the Tre Ragazze effort were Kelley Lamento, Jennifer Pirone, Eliza Hoffman and Kristen Hammond.

The champion Beeline Woodworking squad included Susan Blume, coach George Pollock, Christie Liberante, Susan Ormsbee, Lisa Pollock, Ellen Goyda, coach Ray Ormsbee, Cindy Palkemas, Mary Anne Fisher and Doris Ratner.
