When Hawk Boys Spread Scoring, They're Soaring
When Hawk Boys Spread Scoring, Theyâre Soaring

Thereâs no one go-to guy on this team. Even more dangerous for opponents â on any given day there are (give or take) 10 players who find the net for the Newtown High School boysâ lacrosse team.
This was evidenced in a 12-6 win over Old Lyme on May 5 and a 15-5 victory over Pomperaug in Southbury on May 7. Newtown had nine goal-scorers and 11 players to get on the point sheet with at least an assist in the win over Old Lyme. Against Pomperaug, again nine players got in on the act with net-finders and three others had assists.
This spread out scoring has the team soaring â most of the time. The Nighthawks carried a 9-3 record into Wednesdayâs clash with Bethel (after The Bee sports section went to press).
Newtown did see its six-game winning streak come to a halt in a tough 4-3 loss to Brookfield on Monday. This marked the third time Newtown came up just short in loss after having dropped one-goal contests to Conard and Weston.
Colby Summerlin, Justin Brophy, and Tim Dalton all had two goals apiece in the win over Old Lyme. Newtown, led by five each from Lewis Thompson and Mike Mouchantat, scooped 52 ground balls. Goaltender Brandon Body stopped 13 shots.
Thompson, Dylan Huebner, Summerlin, Brophy, Dalton, and Zach Dent all scored twice, and Thompson had four assists in the win over Pomperaug. Mouchantat, with nine, and Kyle OâConnor, with six, led the Hawks in the ground ball department as Newtown scooped 58 as a team. Body made seven saves.
In the loss to Brookfield, a defensive battle from the start, Newtown couldnât overcome a 4-1 halftime deficit despite shutting out the Bobcats in the second half. Body made eight saves; his counterpart, Mitch Fenton, stopped 17 shots. Huebner, Trey Trudell, Summerlin, and Will Northrop scored in the setback.
Dalton leads the team with 23 goals, Summerlin has 20, Brophy, Northrop, Dent, and Ryan Korth all have 11, Huebner has nine and OâConnor has seven.
Thompson is the playersâ go-to setup man. He leads the team with 27 assists, far and away the most helpers on the team. In addition to Thompson, only Dan Hebert (10) has reached double digits in assists.
