NORTON AUCTIONEERS PLAN SEPT. 18 SALE OF WILLIAMS GROVE AMUSEMENT PARK

avv/lsb set 6/18 #703516

MECHANICSBURG, PENN. — A Pennsylvania tradition since the 1850s, the Williams Grove Amusement Park will sell off its rides and related equipment at an auction slated for Tuesday, September 18. The adjoining motor speedway will remain open, as will the popular flea market held weekly on the picnic grounds, according to Justin Lol, park manager.

Owner Morgan Hughes, who purchased the complex in the early 1970s, was the world’s largest importer of foreign amusement rides. “Mickey” Hughes, as he was known, also had rides at the Palisades Park in New Jersey, several world’s fairs, including New York and Montreal, as well as dozens of parks across the nation.

The auction will be conducted under the auspices of Norton Auctioneers, a Michigan-based auction group that specializes in the auction of tourist-related attractions around the globe.

According to David A. Norton, CEO and chief auctioneer, the auction is scheduled around the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions’ summer meeting that will be held at nearby Hershey Park.
