Congressman To Get Rid Of Campaign Cash

NORWICH (AP) — Some eastern Connecticut charities will benefit from a congressional Republican leader’s problems.

US Rep Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) has decided to donate the $39,500 he received from former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s political action committees to local charities.

“It’s the right thing to do,”’ Mr Simmons’ chief of staff, Todd Mitchell, said on January 10.

Mr Simmons is among Republican House members calling for new leadership elections later this month.

Mr DeLay, who is under indictment for alleged campaign finance violations and money laundering, officially stepped aside as majority leader during the weekend of January 7-8.
